Through the Georgia Health Care Provider Loan Repayment Programs, qualifying applicants may be able to qualify for substantial compensation towards paying off their student loans. Eligibility?

Through the Georgia Health Care Provider Loan Repayment Programs, applicants may fall into one of the following five categories towards student loan repayment programs. The requirements and guidelines for each program are broken down below;

The Physicians for Rural Areas Assistance Program (PRAA) program is:

  • A service-cancelable loan of up to $25,000/year to physicians who
  • Providing direct patient care in medically underserved, rural areas of Georgia.
  • Contracts are awarded for one year and are renewable for additional 3 terms.
  • Funding for this program is funded solely by the State of Georgia.

The Georgia Physician Loan Repayment Program (GPLRP) is
  • a loan repayment program funded by the State of Georgia and a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)
  • It is limited to physicians and aimed at those physicians practicing the specialties of family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, OB/GYN, geriatrics or psychiatry
  • in a Health Professional Shortage Area located in a qualifying county.
  • and provides service cancelable loans of up to $25,000 per year for an initial, two-year period.
  • The participant may elect to re-apply for additional funding to be awarded on an annual basis for two additional years for a maximum of four years.

The Dentists for Rural Areas Assistance Program (DRAA)

  • provides service-cancelable loans of up to $25,000 per year
  • in return for dental practice in an underserved, rural county in Georgia.
  • Contracts are awarded for one year and are renewable three times for a maximum of four years.
  • Funding for this program is provided by the State of Georgia.

The Physician Assistant Loan Repayment Program (PALRP) is

  • a program funded by the State of Georgia
  • to provide service-cancelable loans of up to $10,000/year,
  • with contracts are awarded for one year and renewable a maximum of three times
  • to assist Physician Assistants in repaying outstanding PA education loan debt
  • in return for providing direct patient care in medically underserved, rural areas of Georgia.

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Loan Repayment Program (APRNLRP) is

  • a program funded by the State of Georgia
  • to provide service-cancelable loans of up to $10,000/year,
  • contracts are awarded for one year and renewable a maximum of three times
  • to assist APRN’s in repaying their advanced nursing education loan debt
  • in return for practicing in an underserved rural Georgia county.
