Oklahoma Medical Loan Repayment Program

Through the Oklahoma Medical Loan Repayment Program, Oaklahoma residents are given access to medical care and services in rural and underserved areas with special emphasis to Medicaid and Medicare recipients. Applicants may be able to qualify for up to $160,000 in student loan forgiveness. Eligibility?

In order to be eligible for the Oklahoma Medical Loan Repayment Program, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be licensed to practice medicine in Oklahoma.
  • Be a primary care physician.  Primary care includes family medicine, geriatrics, general internal medicine, general pediatrics, obstetrics/gynecology or emergency medicine.
  • Have legitimate, documented medical educational loans.
  • Not have any service obligation that would conflict with this obligation.
  • Not be currently practicing in a rural Oklahoma community.
  • Not currently on a J-1 Visa.

How much can I expect to be awarded? 

Through the Oklahoma Medical Loan Repayment Program, applicants may be able to receive up to $160,000 towards their student loans. $160,000.00 is the maximum amount you can accrue over four years. $25,000 for the first year, $35,000 for the second year, $45,000 for the third year and $55,000 for the final year. These numbers are based on the number of educational loans to be repaid. Lump-sum yearly payments are made at the conclusion of each obligated practice year. Financial assistance may be extended to a maximum of four years.

• Grad PLUS loans
• Consolidation loans
• Perkins loans
• Private student loans

Please Note: Only loans obtained to cover nursing educational expenses or living expenses while studying nursing are eligible.
