New Mexico Health Professional Loan Repayment Program

Through the New Mexico Health Professional Loan Repayment Program, practicing health care professionals may qualify for up to $25,000 per year towards their student loan debt. As a condition of the program, a health professional must make a two-year service commitment to practice full-time in a designated medical shortage area in New Mexico. The HPLRP is a competitive program. Application to the program does not guarantee funding. Eligibility?

In order to be eligible for the New Mexico Health Professional Loan Repayment Program, you will need to meet all of the following:

  • U.S. Citizen or permanent resident alien
  • New Mexico Resident (12 consecutive months)
  • Licensed or certified in the state of New Mexico by the date funding begins (July 1st)
  • Employed full time (40 hours a week)
  • Preference is given to graduates of New Mexico public post-secondary institutions

  • Nutritionist
  • Occupational Therapist
  • Pharmacist
  • Physical Therapist

  • Speech Language Pathologist

Dental:

  • Dentist

Medical:

  • DO
  • MD
  • Osteopathic Physician Assistant
  • Physician Assistant

Mental Health:

  • CP
  • LADAC
  • LCSW
  • LMSW
  • LPC
  • LPCC
  • MD/Psychiatry
  • MFT
  • Psy D.
  • Other

Nursing:

  • Nurse Practitioner/ Advanced Practice Nurse

What is the award amount?

Through the New Mexico Health Professional Loan Repayment Program, applicants may be eligible for up to $25,000.00 per year. Factors which may affect the award amount include the applicant’s amount of student loan debt and available funding for the program. Recipients are eligible for renewal upon completion of a two-year obligation.

How to apply?

Below find information regarding how to apply for the New Mexico Health Professional Loan Repayment Program:

The HPLRP application opens every year on March 15th and closes May 1st. Electronic applications must be completed in full and submitted online by 5:00 PM on May 1, 2020. Applications with any documents or information missing will not be reviewed for funding.
